Maps & Creatures World-Building | Girl Scout Art & Design Badge

DATE: Sunday 8/2/26   TIME: 10:00am - 12:00pm

In this imaginative world-building workshop, Girl Scouts take inspiration from The New Children’s Museum’s immersive art installations to explore how artists create entire worlds. Scouts collaborate to design a large-scale topographic map from a bird’s-eye view, then bring it to life with handmade creatures and buildings crafted from cardboard.

Activities include:

  • Exploring the work of artist Cannupa Hanska Luger (he/him) and the power of perspective
  • Collaborative ink drawing exercises inspired by aerial landscapes
  • Creating textured maps using DIY brushes and mark-making
  • Designing and building cardboard creatures and structures
  • Reflecting and sharing as a group

This workshop blends art, design, and imagination and invites Girl Scouts to dream up their own creative worlds while earning the Art & Design Badge.

The registration package is for up to 10 participants. Museum access is not included in the workshop registration fee, but can be added on for a self-guided visit following the program. Space is limited, and advanced registration is required.
