Thank you for your interest in the Seeding Speculative Educational Futures Institute at The New Children’s Museum! During this 2-day gathering, we will explore ways in which the writings of award-winning author Octavia E. Butler and speculative fiction can inform our work as educators. These two days will create space for dreaming, planting seeds, and worldmaking our collective futures as educators and worldbuilders in our communities.

This two-day institute is a collaborative project created and designed by Octavia E. Butler: Seeding Futures advising curator Dr. Ayana Jamieson (she/her), Andrea Fullington (she/her) from The Black School, and The New Children’s Museum.

Lunch will be provided on both dates. Please note that this institute will prioritize the participation of educators who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.

Eligibility to apply:

Community or classroom educators who works with children, youth, and or college-aged students.

An organizer or educator working in schools and/or outside of school spaces. Examples include: library, community garden, K-12 classroom, community organization or independent school.

Accepted applicants must provide their own transportation to the workshop.

Please complete the following application form to be considered for participation. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Iyari Arteaga (she/her) at [email protected].

Deadline to apply: 12:00 am PST on Sunday, September 15.
